HI! I am excited to launch a new blog series that captures the knowledge that I’ve gained from teaching over 3000 students. My intention is to share our observations, the trends that we’ve seen come and go, and create conversations to help parents navigate the “growing up” process.
Let me be clear: I am not a scientist. I am not a professional therapist or certified developmental expert. I’m a dance teacher. BUT I have seen more than 3000 students over my 20 years of teaching so I think that counts for something.
At Atlanta Dance Central, we feel that it’s an obligation for us to share our observations with parents. As a parent, assuming that you do not work with children, you have a sample size of 1-8 (and that tends to be unusual). It’s hard for you to know what’s “normal”, what to expect, or how to even deal with all the curveballs that your child will throw at you. (WHAT?! Now they are vegan . . . since when?)
So if I can provide a little help, laughter, and a feeling that you are not alone in this, I am happy to help.
I don’t have children of my own but I have plenty of students to care for at ADC.
What’s OK Here
Before we jump in, I think it’s important to clarify my intentions. I’m here to share my observations from working with families for the last 20 years and give you something to think about. My intentions are not to offend people, claim that my thoughts are facts, or minimize the hard work that parents do. When you read this blog, approach it as just that. Feel free to disagree with me and even share thoughtful commentary about why. I love to start conversations about these things. But please avoid any hateful comments or false assumptions about my intentions.
It’s tough for anyone to share their voice publicly but it’s my belief that without conversation, we cannot grow. Ask questions, get curious, and share your voice. Just please do so respectfully and thoughtfully.
Welcome to our new blog! I hope you find it useful.
Cheers to the journey,
Charlotte
