As June approached with no solidified ART Gala date in sight, our graduating seniors were getting nervous and to be honest so was I. I had declared very boldly that we WOULD have an ART Gala & that we would not cancel. I wanted to give the graduating seniors their celebratory & final moment with us. . . but what if I couldn’t?!
What if I could book an outdoor venue but we ended up having to cancel for safety? We couldn’t take that chance.
So at the beginning of June, we started creating dance films for each of the ART gala dances. We shot outdoors at various locations in Roswell & Alpharetta through the entire month of June & July, creating over 2 hours of dance films to premiere at our very first Drive-In Movie.
Haley, our expert filmmaker & faculty member, filmed for over 50 hours & edited the footage for over 100 hours. What she put together was magical!
On a personal note, it was so fun to work with Haley everyday. She was my student beginning at age 9 & now we continue to have a wonderful relationship. I love her dearly & creating with her was so much fun!
Seeing the students throughout the week (in person) was also a delight. I was again inspired by their dedication to dance.
We made so many memories throughout the process including dancing on a moving dock, getting kicked out of the North Point Mall Parking Deck & various spots at the Avalon, & dancing in the rain.
It wasn’t the same as our “Real ART Gala” but in a lot of ways, I loved it just as much.
