An ART Surprise

/ by Charlotte Williamson / Leave a Comment

1 Month into Quarantine, the scheduled opening night for ART Gala arrives.  Considering we can’t leave our houses, we definitely can't perform in a theater together.

So the ADC team devises a plan to make it memorable!

A tradition of ART Gala is our yearly slideshow. This photo montage showcases all the highlights of the year & usually makes everyone nostalgic for those good times with friends.

Win!   A photo montage is do-able through zoom.

BUT . . . it’s also a downer since we can’t even see each other in person right now.

So, we knew that we needed something more.  We decided to invite a beloved past teacher, Andrea Ekmark, to do a Zoom Class with our students from her home in Colorado.  She was going to be a surprise mystery guest, who would reveal herself after the slideshow.

With the plan in place, ART students were instructed to log-in for a surprise Friday evening.  We played the slideshow.  They cried.  Andrea revealed herself & then they cried tears of joy.

At the end of the class, I thanked them for attending our fun night & wished them a good weekend, when suddenly, . . .

there was a surprise for ME.

The dancers had filmed themselves dancing in their homes to one of the songs in our Production:  You Will Be Found from Dear Evan Hansen.  It was the most beautiful representation of their love for dance & their commitment to never giving up.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do:

Stay well,

Charlotte
