Mikala Drake: October Student of the Month

/ by admin / Leave a Comment

MikalaDrakeSOTMMikala Drake has attended summer drop in classes at ADC a few times, and we are finally happy to have her enrolled in our weekly classes this year.  Mikala has a positive attitude that lights up the entire studio.  She is always up to new challenges and is enthusiastic in every dance class.  Mikala's sweet personality captures the hearts of her fellow students and teachers, and we are happy to name her our October Student of the Month.  Congratulations Mikala!

How old are you?  I am 12 years old and in 7th grade.

Why do you love dance?  Dance is really fun and allows people to show their creativity.  I love dance because it gives me the freedom to express myself.  I always wanted to try dance because it looks fun, unique, and beautiful, and now that I'm in class I know that it is all of those things!

What other hobbies and activities do you participate in?  At school I am involved in the drama club, the visual arts club, and the symphonic band where I play percussion.  I love playing on the tom tom drums!  In my free time I love to paint and draw many different things that inspire me.

Tell us something fun about you!  I am a published artist!  My piece of art titled “Shriners' Hospital: My Family,” has been published in a book by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.  This book has been on display at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California, and was recently on display in Savannah, Georgia.
