It's the beginning of the season here at ADC and this year we have two new faculty members! Ms. Leah and Ms. Sarah may be new to the studio, but they certainly aren't new to the dance scene. Both of our new faculty members graduated with dance degrees, are passionate about dance, are full of energy, and are Georgia natives!
Ms. Leah graduated from Valdosta State University with a B.F.A. in Dance and a B.B.A. in Business Management. She has danced with Ms. Charlotte, Ms. Andrea, and Ms. Mary Ann as a part of SIDEWAYS this past spring, where her dance technique and performance make her stand out on stage. Ms. Leah's smile and positive attitude are absolutely contagious. We know her energy will spread throughout the youth program where she'll be teaching jazz and hip hop.
Where are you from?
Marietta, Ga. Born and raised!
When did you begin dancing and in what class?
I started dancing when I was 6 years old in a ballet class.
What is your favorite dance memory?
My favorite dance memory is when I got to dance in New York with my favorite professor/Mentor Catherine A. Schaeffer. It was a really fun experience because we created a dance together and got to perform it at one of the last showing at Dance New Amsterdam before its closing.
Ms. Sarah holds a BFA from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. She recently relocated to the area where she is dancing, performing, and teaching. Her teaching experience and her knowledge of dance impressed us from the start, especially because she easily finds the balance of working hard while having fun in class. Since Ms. Sarah has joined our team she has kept us laughing in staff meetings as we prepared for the season, and we can't wait to see how her enthusiasm spreads to her students in the kinder and youth programs.

Share a funny dance memory with us!
While I was in company one year for April Fool's day we all decided to play a prank on our teacher. For all of barre we danced purposefully off-beat. The teacher seemed just a little confused at first. Then when we got to frappes, all of us were so off beat she made us do the combination three times. Afterwards she said we needed to have a talk. She said we all needed to work harder or else we would get demoted, and she had been disappointed in our performance lately. She looked really upset. All of us were quiet, and then she said, “APRIL FOOLS!” She ended up pranking us instead!
With Ms. Leah and Ms. Sarah joining us we know we have a stronger team than ever! If you see them in the studio during these first couple of weeks make sure to give them a warm ADC welcome.
