Catch the Light: Daddy Drop Off Day

/ by admin / Leave a Comment

IMG_5019In honor of Father's Day yesterday we wanted to share what we call a “Catch the Light” moment that occurred at the studio this past season.  We love including the whole family in the ADC family.  The Daddy Daughter Dance is a highlight of the annual recital, we love all the siblings here at the studio, and our dance moms are about the nicest you could get.  Let's set the scene:

It was a chilly Saturday morning this past winter.  Our staff has noticed that for whatever reason, Dads tend to have dance duty on the same morning.  We lovingly refer to this as “Daddy Drop Off Day.”  A kinder class was gathering in Studio 1, reporting to share time to begin class as other students trickled in.  About half of the class had gathered in morning conversation when one of our students entered with her Dad.  She needed help removing winter clothing and getting shoes on, so the two were quietly getting situated by the classroom door.

“What is heeeeeee doing here?!” asked one of the curious students.

“That's her Dad,” we explained.  “He's helping her get ready for dance.”

“But why is he STILL here?” the same student asked.

“He's helping her get ready.  Maybe he wants to stay and do ballet too,” we joked, trying to alleviate any hurt feelings that may follow the question.

This Dad didn't miss a beat.  He looked over at his audience of preschoolers, smiled, and executed the best pirouette he had, arms up and everything.  Students erupted in giggles and cheered for him as he pranced out of the classroom.

Obviously this small event stuck with us for a while.  We loved how this Dad wasn't embarrassed to participate in the joke we had made.  He added to the joke and had the whole class smiling.  The best part about the situation was that his daughter, our student, was so proud of her Dad.  She walked to the share time circle with a confident smile and positive attitude.  Moments like this make us so appreciative of all of the families that make up the large family we have here at ADC.

Happy Father's Day to all of our Dance Dads!
